The Historic Donnelly House

In a residential neighborhood in the Highland Avenue Historic District in Birmingham, sits the Donnelly House on a street lined with crepe myrtle trees.  This beautiful Georgian – colonial mansion, once the home of James Donnelly, has not only hosted many an elegant wedding but also President Taft.  In 2011 it was purchased by Carl Schoettlin and his wife who then took on the monumental task of renovating the stately home to its current glory in order to once again serve as a wedding venue.  When I asked Carl what his favorite part of the venue was, he mentioned the large white marble floors throughout the downstairs.  This unusual feature is usually relegated to smaller sections of flooring but the original owner being an art enthusiast, probably installed theses beautiful floors to reflect light back up on his collection of paintings hanging on the walls of his home.

Classic Southern Wedding
