A Historic North Carolina Venue

Flyway Lodge is a historic barn situated on Knotts Island in North Carolina.  It is situated overlooking the Currituck sound and is just now opening up as a wedding venue and event space.  We had the honor of shooting images to showcase its beautiful potential with multiple locations around the property for romantic windswept portraits.  The owner’s daughter and her fiancé Brian modeled for us.  They will be getting married at the venue later this fall so this was the perfect practice for their own wedding day.

The beautiful blue and grey barn is unique in its u-shape with beautiful doors that just made my architecture loving heart jump for joy.  Built in the 1920s by New York Tribune publishers Ogden Mills and Helen Reid, it housed servants and vehicles as well as farm animals and machinery. The first floor has a large garage that will become a reception space. The second floor has 11 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen, and living spaces which we were able to tour.  Many of the original fixtures are still there which just adds to the charm of the building itself.
