Here you will find some of the celebrations, special occasions, and projects our team has been honored to document over the past 15 years.
As a little girl I vividly remember visiting my grandparents home in Georgia where there were walls lined with books from floor to ceiling and right smack dab in the middle was a beautiful print of a lion. I loved playing and reading books, nestled between the back of the couch and those gigantic bookshelves that smelled of a well loved library. I still remember searching for one special treat in particular. It wasn’t a book but a magazine and its golden yellow cover was like a treasure of gold peaking out from under piles of other books and mail. The National Geographic Magazine was something I would pour over again and again on visits to my Granddads. It was my proverbial flying carpet to see the world. The images forever fixed a love of travel in me, first to Germany in high school.
A group of us with our German teacher road trains, stayed in youth hostels, and went from Munich all the way up to Lubeck. Later in college I travel with a group of friends to stay with a pastor in Magaly while we did mission work in Mexico.
To this day, I still have a bucket list of places to travel to and photograph. I am reminded of it even more when I look back to photographs like these and think of the row of collected yellow spines lined up one by one as my grandfather faithfully collected and kept every National Geographic that he received. Those magazines had such a huge influence on how I grew up and saw the world and even now in the small business that I run. It has made me who I am today and it will always hold a special place in my heart!
A blog post about what inspires me as a photographer would be remiss without a bucket list of places I dream of traveling to because of flipping through National Geographic as a child. Brazil is of course on the top of my list as my mom and uncles were born and grew up there followed by a trip to Thailand, Ireland, Iceland, and Italy due to my stint as a college art history professor which again was largely influenced by reading beautiful rich magazines as a child. Where do you want to travel to? What inspires you?
